A book of photos of people in the Brannockstown area, to raise funds for Pieta House, is an idea being developed by a group of people from the village, writes Brian Byrne.

The concept will also provide a photographic record of local people in their homes during the period of coronavirus restriction period.

“We think it would be a nice way to capture this unique moment in time while most of us are at home,” says Agnes Keohane, one of those behind the project.

In line with the current five-kilometre restriction on travel, this will limit the area of participation. The organisers would like everyone possible within that radius of Brannockstown to take part.

“We hope everyone, old, young, and new to the area, will join in. Photographs will be taken by our photographer in a relaxed manner at people’s homes, in their garden, or wherever they wish in the area. If someone doesn’t want to appear in a photo themselves, but would like their homes or gardens to be part of it, we’re happy to accommodate that.”

Those taking part will be asked to write a short note about themselves to appear with the picture.

The organisers say a substantial number of people will need to participate for the project to be viable. They have sent a flier to local homes, and set a deadline of 1 June for expressions of interest.

With the annual local Dawn Walk to Gilltown Stud not happening this year, it’s hoped that this project will help mitigate the gap in support to Pieta House which has become a normal from Kilcullen.
